Our Leadership
Phil Lurie
FOUNDER
Phil’s acumen for technology began at the National Science Foundation at Stevens Institute of Technology where he studied mathematics and computer science, learning to code on IBM mainframes, and then using that experience to teach programming using time sharing technology. His undergraduate research was funded by NASA and later by the NIH while studying origins of life chemistry using his software skills.
With advanced degrees in chemistry, Phil’s early career began in pharmaceuticals, developing blood test and consumer products, but he transitioned full-time to IT in 1980, authoring technology plans for the NYSE and American Stock Exchanges, while at the Securities Industries Corporation (SIAC). He then went on to become CIO at Simon & Schuster.
After working at Deloitte Consulting and PWC, Phil founded Logical Approach, providing due diligence and M&A support for Private Equity, Venture Capital and Industry buyers. His team guided the spinoff of Magellan Pipeline from Williams Energy, and aided Nucor Steel in the acquisition of several retired steel mills. During a consulting assignment at SAP he accepted a full-time position with them as VP of Business Operations, and Phil now rejoins Logical Approach where he most recently facilitated the merger of two not-for-for profit organizations, focusing on the emotional and practical financial issues involved in such a venture.
An avid social advocate and educator, Phil has also been an Adjunct Professor at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and has published work through John Hopkins University.
